Trifecta
Trifecta homes in on the area of Los Angeles between Hollywood and downtown. Three iconic domed structures- Angelus Temple, Cinerama Theater, Griffith Observatory, triangulate the location. The domes rise, come together and spin to perform their vibrational cycle (VLF, 7-8hz*), illuminating the space below. While the domes themselves are imagined as phantom screens and hovering spacecraft, they are willing symbols of the surrender, identification, wonder and discovery found under their synergetic cover. * 7-8 hz, the Alpha-Theta border frequency, is known to promote visualization while acting as a gateway to meditative states.
Trifecta was originally created for and screened in "Out the Window", a project from Freewaves, i collaboration with Public Matters, Echo Park Film Center and UCLA REMAP. A multiphase initiative, OTW broadcasts videos about Los Angeles on 2,200 buses- the entire Los Angeles County Metro bus system- in Los Angeles, California. Out the Window is supported by grants from the HASTAC Digital Media and Learning Competition, The James Irvine Foundation, the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, the Getty Grant Program, and the Pasadena Art Alliance.
